ACE inhibitors such as lisinopril block the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II which leads to decreased arteriolar resistance, decreased aldosterone levels, decreased glomerular filtration rates and increased renin levels. They are used to treat hypertension, diabetic nephropathy and heart failure.
