Why each option
In Citrix Provisioning Services, the Merge option is disabled when an active maintenance version exists that has not yet been promoted to Test or Production status.
Merging applies to all accumulated versions of a vDisk collectively, not to individual versions in isolation.
The version of the PVS target device software used to create the vDisk does not influence the availability of the Merge option in the console.
PVS requires that no outstanding maintenance version remain in an unpromoted state before a merge can occur. When a maintenance version exists but has not been promoted to Test or Production, the console disables the Merge button to preserve version integrity. The administrator must first promote the maintenance version before the Merge option becomes available.
Target devices actively consuming the latest production version do not lock the Merge option - version promotion state, not device connectivity, controls that UI element.
