An administrator notices that there is an all paths down (APD) event occurring for the software FCoE storage. What is a likely cause?

When STP is active on the network switch ports connected to FCoE NICs, STP port state transitions (listening and learning phases) temporarily block traffic on those ports; because FCoE carries storage traffic over this same Ethernet link, any port block immediately drops all FC frames, causing all paths to the storage to go down and resulting in an APD condition - switch ports used for FCoE should be configured as PortFast or edge ports to bypass STP delays.

Disabling STP on the network ports prevents STP-induced port blocking, which would allow FCoE traffic to flow uninterrupted and thus prevent APD events rather than cause them.

Storage processors do not participate in or execute Spanning Tree Protocol, so STP configuration on storage processors is not a valid cause for APD events.

Disabling STP on storage processors has no effect on FCoE path availability because storage processors are not STP participants and this setting does not influence switch port forwarding behavior.
