Why each option
Creating any endpoint in CUCM requires the MAC address as the unique hardware identifier used to register and identify the device. Other addressing schemes are not required at registration time.
CUCM uses the MAC address as the primary unique identifier when adding any endpoint, including video devices, because it is burned into the hardware and used during device registration and configuration file provisioning. Without the MAC address, CUCM cannot generate the device-specific configuration file the endpoint downloads on boot.
IP addresses are assigned dynamically via DHCP and are not entered when creating an endpoint in CUCM.
An E.164 directory number is assigned to a line on a device, not to the device itself during endpoint creation.
A SIP URI is used for call routing and addressing but is not required to register or create the endpoint record in CUCM.
