The Machine Identity Service, a component of the Citrix Host Service on Delivery Controllers, is responsible for creating and managing the Active Directory computer accounts for MCS-provisioned machines. If this service is not running or encountering issues, MCS will be unable to complete the provisioning process, specifically the creation of machine identities, thereby preventing the creation of new desktop OS machines.

While antivirus software can sometimes cause issues, the Machine Identity Service not running is a more direct and specific technical cause for MCS machine creation failures than general antivirus interference.
