Question
Scenario: Newly hired employees report they are NOT able to connect to their Desktop OS machines. Some of the employees have provided screenshots that show an error message indicating that no license is available. The license console shows that all device/user licenses have been allocated. Three weeks ago the company sold a subsidiary, freeing up 100 licenses, so the IT team is certain that licenses are available. Which command-line interface utility should a Citrix Administrator use to address this issue?

Why each option
udadmin.exe is the Citrix command-line utility for listing and releasing User/Device license allocations, which is required when formerly allocated licenses must be freed for new users.
lmdiag.exe is a FlexNet license diagnostic utility used to test whether licenses can be checked out - it does not release or reassign allocated licenses.
lmdown.exe shuts down the FlexNet license server daemon entirely, which would take all licenses offline and worsen the connectivity problem.
udadmin.exe connects to the Citrix License Server and provides the ability to view all current User/Device license assignments and release licenses that are allocated to identities no longer needing them, such as employees from a sold subsidiary. Running udadmin with the appropriate release flags frees those 100 licenses so that newly hired employees can obtain a license and connect to their desktops. This is the only tool in the set specifically designed to manage individual user/device license allocations.
lmadmin.exe is a web-based administration interface for managing the license server configuration itself, not for releasing individual user or device license allocations.
