Options C and D describe Provisioning Services concepts (vDisk, device collections) which are not required when you are cataloging machines that already exist, not streaming them.
Fatima Z.Oct 24, 2025Okay the word "existing" in that question is doing ALL the heavy lifting and I almost missed it the first time, so burn this into your brain with the mnemonic VA-BAM, Virtual machines plus Active Directory accounts equals BAM, catalog done. C and D are screaming Provisioning Services at you, vDisks and target devices and collections, which is the whole streaming-boot workflow for provisioned machines, not existing ones. The exam is baiting you to think about PvS because it lives in the same XenDesktop neighborhood, but existing machines already live on the datacenter floor, they just need to be pointed to and claimed via AD. So VA is your V for VMs available in the datacenter and A for AD computer accounts, and together they are literally the only two ingredients Studio needs to build that catalog from scratch without any imaging pipeline involved.
Mei-Ling H.Oct 24, 2025That mnemonic clicks but I want to add one precision, the AD computer accounts have to already exist in the OU you specify, Studio does not create them for you in this catalog type, so if you hand it an empty OU you will get zero machines imported no matter how many VMs sit in the datacenter.
Viktor S.Nov 2, 2025Saw this exact scenario on my exam and almost overthought it, but then I remembered that "existing machines" means you are just pointing XenDesktop at hardware that is already built and sitting in the datacenter, so the only two things the catalog wizard actually asks you for are the VMs themselves (A) and their AD computer accounts (B) so the Delivery Controller can register and communicate with them. C and D are Provisioning Services territory, which is a completely different animal that applies when you are streaming an OS from a vDisk, not when you are onboarding machines that already exist.
