NIM can migrate the global AIX environment but does not support direct OS version migration of a detached system WPAR, which owns its own independent OS image.

A detached system WPAR maintains a fully independent filesystem and OS installation separate from the global environment, so migration tools that operate at the global level cannot touch it. Because migwpar and NIM-based migration only handle attached WPARs or the global partition, the only supported method to move a detached system WPAR to AIX 7 is to run a standard OS migration inside the WPAR using the AIX install media directly.

The savewpar command creates a backup archive of a WPAR for restore purposes and does not perform an OS version migration.

The syncwpar command synchronizes filesets in an attached WPAR with the global environment and is not applicable to a detached WPAR that manages its own OS independently.
