SG0-001 · Question #354
A customer requests that a new SAN enclosure be installed on the top slots of an unused rack. Which of the following is a reason why a technician might deny this request?
The correct answer is B. The rack's stability is threatened by the installation enclosure.. Installing heavy equipment like a SAN enclosure at the top of a rack is generally discouraged because it can compromise the rack's stability and create a tipping hazard.

Options
- AImproper airflow from the HVAC is caused by this installation enclosure.
- BThe rack's stability is threatened by the installation enclosure.

Why each option
Installing heavy equipment like a SAN enclosure at the top of a rack is generally discouraged because it can compromise the rack's stability and create a tipping hazard.
While proper airflow is crucial, placing a SAN enclosure at the top does not inherently cause improper HVAC airflow more than placing it elsewhere; airflow management is a rack-wide design concern.
Heavy equipment such as a SAN enclosure should be installed at the bottom of a rack to maintain a low center of gravity. This prevents the rack from becoming top-heavy and unstable, especially during maintenance or if the rack needs to be moved.
The source of power, such as from a raised floor, is independent of the physical location of equipment within the rack regarding stability concerns.
While cable management can be challenging in any setup, placing equipment at the top does not inherently make it more difficult than at the bottom from a general cabling perspective, and it is not the primary safety concern.
