In addition to voice and data services, an equipment room (ER) can be designed to include all of the following EXCEPT:

CATV and CCTV distribution facilities are explicitly recognized as telecommunications services that may be housed or terminated within an equipment room.

Life safety systems, including fire alarm panels and emergency communications, are permitted and often required to be included in equipment room design per applicable standards.

BICSI and ANSI/TIA-568 standards define the equipment room as a space for telecommunications equipment and related building services, not for high-voltage electrical distribution monitoring or controls. Building electrical service monitoring belongs in dedicated electrical rooms or building management system facilities to maintain proper separation of high-voltage and low-voltage infrastructure. Including such systems in an ER would violate design principles that keep electrical service infrastructure separate from telecommunications spaces.

Audio and paging distribution equipment is a telecommunications-related service that BICSI standards recognize as an acceptable function within an equipment room.

General premise monitoring and security systems are classified as telecommunications services and are allowable components of equipment room design per BICSI guidelines.
