A junction in ONTAP is a mount point where a child volume is grafted into the directory tree of a parent volume, forming a unified namespace. When a client crosses a junction path, it transparently enters the child volume that is mounted there - even though the path appears continuous. This is the fundamental mechanism behind ONTAP's FlexVol-based namespace architecture.
The junction is the mount point itself, not a destination; crossing it means entering the volume mounted there, not another junction.
Junctions operate entirely within a single cluster and SVM; they have no mechanism to redirect clients to a different cluster.
