NS0-157 · Question #288
The vifMgr is out of quorum on the node that is the master for the vifMgr ring. Which of the following statements are true? (choose all that apply)
The correct answer is A. A new master will be elected for the vifMgr RDB unit C. Clients can access data through the LIFs on this node. When the master node of the vifMgr ring loses quorum, a new master is elected for that RDB unit, but existing LIFs on the affected node continue to serve client data normally.
Question
The vifMgr is out of quorum on the node that is the master for the vifMgr ring. Which of the following statements are true? (choose all that apply)
Options
- AA new master will be elected for the vifMgr RDB unit
- BEpsilon will not be available in the cluster
- CClients can access data through the LIFs on this node

Why each option
When the master node of the vifMgr ring loses quorum, a new master is elected for that RDB unit, but existing LIFs on the affected node continue to serve client data normally.
When the node acting as master for the vifMgr Replicated Database unit goes out of quorum, the cluster automatically elects a new master node for that ring to maintain cluster-wide LIF management operations. This is the standard RDB ring failover behavior built into ONTAP cluster infrastructure.
Epsilon is a cluster-wide quorum tiebreaker vote assigned to one node and is unrelated to a single RDB ring (vifMgr) losing quorum; it remains available unless the broader cluster quorum is threatened.
Existing LIFs that are already hosted on the out-of-quorum node continue to forward and serve client traffic because data path operations do not depend on the node holding the vifMgr ring master role; the quorum loss only affects control-plane LIF management operations.
Creating a new LIF for a data vserver requires the vifMgr ring to be in quorum to process and replicate the configuration change; since the master is out of quorum, new LIF creation operations would fail.
