Where can NDMP backups be performed?

NDMP in ONTAP is not scoped to the data Vserver - it is a node-level service, not a Vserver-level service.

The cluster Vserver handles cluster management functions and does not host NDMP backup operations for data volumes.

NDMP backups cannot be initiated from any arbitrary node - they must run on the specific node that owns the volume.

ONTAP uses a node-scoped NDMP model where the backup application connects directly to the node hosting the volume. The NDMP service on that node manages data transfer to the tape device or backup application, so backups must originate from the volume-owning node.
