As represented in the exhibit, Disk 2 has failed. The storage processor reads Blocks 1, 2, 4 and Parity 1-4 from the remaining disks in the RAID group (0, 1, 3, and 4). With this information, the storage processor has all it needs to calculate the data for missing Block 3 and writes this data to the hot spare.
