How do receivers request to join multicast streams in a Cisco SD-WAN network?

Multicast service routes are part of how the vSmart controller learns about multicast sources and group ranges in the overlay, not how receivers request to join.

Receivers in a Cisco SD-WAN network use IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) membership reports to signal their desire to join a multicast group. These reports are sent directly to the local multicast router, which then propagates this information upstream using PIM to establish the multicast distribution tree.

PIM messages are used by routers to build and maintain multicast distribution trees, not directly by receivers to request membership. Receivers use IGMP.

The vBond orchestrator's primary role is orchestration and initial authentication for SD-WAN devices, not handling real-time multicast membership reports from end receivers.
