Why each option
CHAP authentication settings for a vSphere iSCSI software or dependent hardware adapter are configured under the Properties tab of the adapter in the Storage Adapters view.
The Properties tab of an iSCSI adapter in the vSphere Client exposes the CHAP authentication section, where administrators can set the CHAP level (None, Do Not Use CHAP Unless Required, Use CHAP Unless Prohibited, or Use CHAP) along with the CHAP name and secret. This is the designated location for configuring both one-way and mutual CHAP for iSCSI security.
The Advanced Options tab exposes low-level adapter parameters such as login timeout and header digest settings, but does not contain CHAP authentication configuration.
The Targets tab is used to configure Dynamic and Static target discovery addresses, not to set authentication credentials.
The Devices tab lists storage devices and LUNs presented to the host and provides no interface for configuring authentication protocols.
