Why each option
Fault Tolerance for VMs with more than one vCPU uses Fast Checkpointing, which requires at minimum a vSphere Enterprise license.
vSphere Enterprise is the minimum edition that enables Fault Tolerance for multi-vCPU VMs (up to 8 vCPUs) using the Fast Checkpointing mechanism introduced in vSphere 6.0. A 4-vCPU VM exceeds the 1-vCPU limit of Legacy FT supported in Standard, so Enterprise is the lowest edition that satisfies this requirement.
Enterprise Plus supports multi-vCPU FT but is not the minimum - Enterprise already includes this capability.
Standard supports only Legacy FT, which is strictly limited to VMs with a single vCPU and cannot be used for a 4-vCPU VM.
