Blocking calling number identification is controlled by caller ID suppression settings or calling party transformation patterns, not by the external mask field.

Called number identification relates to the dialed destination number and inbound routing, not to the outbound calling party number presentation.

When a phone with a 5-digit internal DN places an outbound PSTN call, the external mask (for example, 972555XXXXX) overlays the internal digits to produce a valid E.164 or 10-digit calling party number that the PSTN can recognize and route. Without this transformation, the PSTN would receive the raw internal extension, which is unroutable and results in incorrect or missing caller ID. The mask is applied per directory number in CUCM and is specifically designed to bridge the gap between short internal dial plans and full PSTN number formats.

Associating a directory number with a SIP endpoint is accomplished through device registration and line configuration in CUCM, which is independent of the external mask.
