Explanation

ILOM does not generate Exadata software alerts, however a hardware fault may generate an ILOM alert and an Exadata alert. ILOM does not natively provide a view of the database alert log, however you can use ILOMto remotely access the console for a database server and using that console access you canlog into the sever as a DBA user and view the database alert log. Our group landed on A, C, D, F, and G as the correct set, and I think that lines up with what Oracle's documentation actually says about ILOM's scope. The key to this question is in the phrase "independently of the operating system state," which tells you ILOM lives at the hardware layer, so anything touching software faults or database internals is automatically out of scope. That rules out B because Exadata software faults are tracked at the software and storage software layer, not through ILOM, and it rules out E because the database alert log is an Oracle database concept that has nothing to do with lights-out hardware management. The remaining five, hardware error detection, remote power control, console access, sensor monitoring, and hardware configuration visibility, are all classic ILOM capabilities you can perform even when the OS is completely down or unresponsive. Has anyone in the group seen a practice question that tested the boundary between ILOM and the Exadata software stack in a different way? Would be useful to compare notes before the exam.

Yep, A, C, D, F, and G are all spot on. ILOM is strictly a hardware-level out-of-band management tool, so spin up a lab with any SPARC or x86 server that has ILOM and you will see right away that it has zero visibility into the OS or database layer, which is exactly why B and E are out.

Solid call on all counts, and the reason B and E keep tripping candidates is they conflate ILOM with Enterprise Manager or the old Grid Control stack, which actually do reach into the OS and database layer, and Oracle has been drawing that line in the sand since the Sun acquisition closed in 2010.

A C D F G, ILOM is hardware, not software or database. Sat that exam in 2013, almost picked B because the Exadata branding threw me, then remembered ILOM predates Exadata by years and talks to chips, not TNS listeners.
