When Smart Directory cannot connect to LDAP, you check for network or firewall restrictions blocking the User Manager connection, and you verify that the Login Distinguished Name has at least read permission on the LDAP server, since read-only at the OS level (option 1) is not relevant to LDAP directory access. Would anyone in the group disagree with eliminating option 1 here, or does that feel settled to everyone?
