When using only LTM in redundant pairs, a customer can load balance to multiple data centers.

LTM lacks the DNS-based global load balancing capability required to distribute traffic across multiple geographically separated data centers.

LTM (Local Traffic Manager) is designed to manage and load balance traffic within a single data center environment. Multi-data center load balancing requires F5 GTM (Global Traffic Manager, now called BIG-IP DNS), which uses DNS-based routing to direct clients to the appropriate data center. LTM has no awareness of geographic distribution or the health of remote data centers.
